What we do

FCE was founded in December 1984 in response to a need for community as perceived by one of the founding members, Dr. M. Scott Peck, author of The Road Less Traveled,The Different Drum, and A World Waiting to Be Born. Lecturing throughout the country, Dr. Peck found vast numbers of people and organizations expressing a longing for, and a lack of community in their lives. Along with eleven others, Dr. Peck formed the foundation to spread the work of community building as a means to address this deep yearning for authentic human connection.

In the twenty-five years since its inception, FCE has actively built community between people from conflicting ethnic groups, religions and political beliefs in numerous national and international locations. From South Africa to Bosnia and beyond, FCE's Community Building workshops and Community Facilitation programs have helped individuals around the globe to experience learning and living the principles of community. Today, FCE continues to guide the world toward more effective communication and the possibility of peace.

FCE TRAINED FACILITATORS

FCE has a corps of experienced facilitators who have been trained in the community building process.  Facilitators work as a team of two or three people to lead a community building workshop, which can include a two-day experience or a three-day experience.  In the three day version, the first two days are spent in the community building circle followed by a third day in a more traditional format.  The third day is designed to enable participant to gain insight into the process and skills so that their experience can be integrated into daily living.
